Rainbow Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed from rapidly cooled lava. It appears black at first glance, but when viewed in the right light, it reveals subtle to vivid bands of rainbow-like colors, including greens, purples, blues, and golds. These shimmering layers are created by microscopic mineral inclusions and internal structural patterns within the obsidian.
Origin & Locality
Rainbow Obsidian is most commonly found in Mexico, particularly in regions with historic volcanic activity. Smaller deposits also occur in parts of the United States and Central America, though Mexican material is the most widely available and recognized.
Metaphysical Properties
Rainbow Obsidian is often associated with emotional healing, gentle protection, and self-reflection. Unlike some forms of obsidian that are linked to intense shadow work, Rainbow Obsidian is believed to offer a softer, more supportive energy, helping to reveal hidden emotions while providing grounding and comfort. It is commonly connected to the Root Chakra, with additional associations to the Heart Chakra due to its layered coloration.
Intuitively Chosen Stone
Each Rainbow Obsidian tumble stone will be intuitively chosen for you. As these are natural stones, variations in size, shape, surface polish, and intensity of rainbow coloration are to be expected. Some stones may show subtle flashes, while others display stronger color under light.
